Summary

I have mixed feelings about this volume。On one hand， Ruka really shone in this volume by being the most mature and honest character in this clusterfuck love triangle/ quadrangle/ who fucking knows at this point。 Calling out Mizuhira for allowing this charade to go on and declaring how serious she is about being Kazuya's girlfriend。 Not only that， but despite her reckless and impulsive personality， she still demonstrated emotional maturity in not telling Kazuya's grandma the truth in order to spa I have mixed feelings about this volume。On one hand， Ruka really shone in this volume by being the most mature and honest character in this clusterfuck love triangle/ quadrangle/ who fucking knows at this point。 Calling out Mizuhira for allowing this charade to go on and declaring how serious she is about being Kazuya's girlfriend。 Not only that， but despite her reckless and impulsive personality， she still demonstrated emotional maturity in not telling Kazuya's grandma the truth in order to spare her feelings。 Yes， this ultimately just draws out the wacky and hilarious hijinxes out unnecessarily， but it does show how multi-dimensional Ruka is。On the other hand， Kazuya was pretty annoying and basically spent the entire volume spouting lie after lie。 I'll give him credit where credit is due， that scene on the balcony was really nice and showed how mature he can be， I just wish we could get more scenes like that。 Instead， we just got scene after scene of him being either a） flustered， b） an annoying， lying loser， or c） mopey while he internally monologues。 Please Miyajima， please give Kazuya better moments， I really need them at this point。Complaints aside， this was a solid volume for the most part and I still had fun reading it。 I'm curious to meet this new girl and see what her deal is， but I can only hope and pray that next volume isn't going to be Kazuya Lies and Acts like a Dipshit for the Fifty-Fucking-Millionth Time。 。。。more

Kazuya finally has a girlfriend who wants to go all the way with him， but it’s not Chizuru， the rental girlfriend his grandmother thinks he’s seeing。 With Ruka trying to jumpstart some romance and Kazuya making amends， there’s a lot going on， so better add another female into the mix！I begrudgingly enjoy Rent-A-Girlfriend and the reason why has been noted in pretty much every review - I cannot get enough of this art。 This style keeps me completely content， even when the plot around me is a bunch Kazuya finally has a girlfriend who wants to go all the way with him， but it’s not Chizuru， the rental girlfriend his grandmother thinks he’s seeing。 With Ruka trying to jumpstart some romance and Kazuya making amends， there’s a lot going on， so better add another female into the mix！I begrudgingly enjoy Rent-A-Girlfriend and the reason why has been noted in pretty much every review - I cannot get enough of this art。 This style keeps me completely content， even when the plot around me is a bunch of hooey。And， oh， are they ever going for it this volume。 One of the chapter title pages has Chizuru in a belly dancing outfit and it’s appropriate enough as the harem has fully arrived。Ruka is clearly not into Kazuya so much as she is the weird rush to her heart she gets from him。 She’d probably date a mackerel if it offered her the same physiological response。 Which all just makes her very eager， but gives Kazuya ample reason to keep her at arm’s length。Chizuru clearly likes Kazuya， for reasons that are conversely completely unclear （a stick of butter and a piece of cork have more chemistry）， but won’t admit anything or the series would end。Mami is still out in the atmosphere waiting to cause trouble （the near-misses in this one are such a letdown since high drama might ensue）。 Then a fourth girl enters by way of Kazuya doing a favour for Chizuru and now she’ll get entwined in this ongoing hormonal menagerie。It’s a lot and it’s not a good lot。 Kazuya saving his friend from becoming a misogynist piece of crap after events of previous volumes is almost clever except he uses Chizuru to do it AND the correct response to all this is that you shouldn’t need to be pulled back from the brink of being a misogynist piece of crap， you just shouldn’t be one。Between that and the tortured New Year’s event with Kazuya’s grandmother， which features a lot of people being annoying as hell， there’s not a lot of fun in the writing of this volume。 Minimal humour， annoying characters， and plotting that can grate。Still， 3 stars， and that’s not terribly surprising; it’s 2 to 2。5 stars worth of story with 5 stars worth of art。 Seriously， if this was better written or an art book it would be absolute dynamite。 Instead there’s a weak story to endure while it looks amazing， so it’s more like a couple of cap guns。 But when they’re both firing？ Man， this is still worth it。 。。。more
